Police said a 6-year-old boy was shot and killed early Sunday morning in a South Bend apartment complex, just a block from the South Bend Police Department.
The boy was found dead by a woman who was cleaning out the building, police said.
Police said there was a warrant out for the arrest of a suspect in the case.
Police said they are not sure how the shooting happened.
Neighbors told The Associated Press the apartment complex was usually quiet.
Police did not immediately provide any other details about the shooting.
The shooting comes as South Bend has seen a spike in violence, with at least two homicides in the past week.
On Thursday, a 15-year old boy was killed in the city when someone fired a gun into the air at his family home, according to police.
The teen’s mother was also shot, and police say they have not identified the shooter.
