The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has announced it is banning the practice of male circumcision in public places, and in all private spaces.
On Thursday, the Defense Ministry announced that male circumcision was to be banned in public areas, except for the military, the hospital, the police, and hospitals.
It also banned men from wearing a beard, covering their faces, or having facial hair.
It also banned male circumcision for newborn boys.
The ban comes after an Israeli judge recently overturned a ruling from the country’s highest court that had overturned a previous ruling that allowed men to wear a beard in public, while women could wear a scarf.
The ruling by the Jerusalem District Court ruled that the ban violates the constitution and Israeli law.
The government has said it will appeal the decision.
The decision follows a petition by a group of Israeli Jews to the Supreme Court, which had earlier ruled that male genital mutilation was not an act of terrorism.
The Defense Ministry said the ban will take effect on June 1, and that it will continue to enforce the ban until it is rescinded.
The Ministry also said it was reviewing whether it should ban circumcision in the future.
The move follows the March 2015 assassination of a Palestinian journalist by a member of the Islamic Jihad group.
The killing prompted the Palestinian Authority (PA) to ban the circumcision of boys under the age of five, and a new Israeli law was passed last year to require circumcision for boys in the same age group.
