NEW YORK — A new “The West Sides Story” movie will premiere at the Tokyo Asian Film Festival on Aug. 19, 2019, with the new movie’s cast, directors and producer confirmed.
The story of a young Japanese woman’s quest to find her missing father will be adapted by Japanese director Kiyotaka Kondo, who is currently producing “Kimono no Yoru ni Naru,” the “Mawaru Penguindrum” anime series.
The story will be told by the director and star of the upcoming “The Legend of Zelda” series, and is set in Tokyo’s “West Side.”
The story will follow the life of the main character, a girl named Kagome who travels to Kyoto, Japan, to seek the child of a man who has gone missing.
She finds the child in a forest.
The film is described as a “dark and tragic” tale of family and grief.
It will premiere in theaters on Aug 24.
